My Dress-Up Darling has captured the hearts of anime viewers from different parts of the world. It is one of the most anticipated anime in the winter 2022 anime season, along with huge titles like Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan.

While everyone is fussing about the rumbling and the entertainment district fight, My Dress-Up Darling defines itself through the wonderful and adorable storytelling of the relationship between Marin and Gojo.

The anime’s premise starts off with Gojo’s unique interest in the art of Hina Dolls. In his past memories, Gojo was traumatized by his childhood friend, whom we came to know as "Non-chan". She despised him just because he was a boy who loved Hina dolls. As a result, Gojo’s perspective on everyone changed, and he began to outcast himself.

On the other hand, Marin Kitagawa is a popular and beautiful girl who is not afraid to speak her mind, which is the exact opposite of Gojo. One fateful day, Marin encountered Gojo inside the home economics classroom because she was looking for the school’s sewing machine. Both of our protagonists meet and discover their weird hobbies. Eventually, the two of them agreed to have a partnership where Gojo would help Marin with her cosplay.

Literally, Marin Kitagawa is not an alien.

Bear in mind that My Dress-Up Darling is not a fantasy anime, even though it shows some fantasy elements here and there because of Marin’s passion for anime, cosplay, and video games. She doesn’t live outside the planet, nor does she speak an alien language, even though she sometimes talks inaudibly. So, please don’t think that Marin is of the Namekian kind that lives on Planet Namek.

To get things straight, Marin is an alien from another world in the eyes of Gojo Wakana. It is just a metaphor used for people who are outstanding, sometimes defining geniuses. Unlike Gojo’s aloof and introverted personality, Marin stands out because of her proud stature, her playful and cheerful personality, as well as her popularity among everyone in school.
