Who is the God of Stories in the Marvel Comics?
After Loki Season 2 Episode 5 aired on Disney Plus, MCU fans speculated that this may be the Loki variant's turn to finally transform into the God of Stories in the MCU franchise.
Although we have yet to confirm this until the finale episode of the Loki series releases next Friday, here's everything we know about the origins of the God of Stories in Marvel Comics.
In the comics series Loki: Agent of Asgard, Loki turned into the God of Stories after he 'stopped' being the God of Lies and as the God of Evil. You didn't think he was only the God of Mischief, did you?
Well, considering that the Loki variant we've been following throughout the Loki series is but the variant of the main Loki we saw in the MCU run, there was no doubt that his destiny was a different path from his original counterpart.
It makes sense that this Loki variant would become the God of Stories eventually. This pretty much explains the reason behind his time-slipping tendencies since Season 2 began.
Considering that his abilities as the God of Mischief granted him powers of being genderfluid and typically, a masquerade to take what belongs to him, becoming the God of Stories could save his place in the MCU timeline.

Is Loki the God of Stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Now?
When Loki found himself standing alone in the Time Variance Authority, he lost his friends at the citadel. They had disappeared off to their original places on the Sacred Timeline.
And quite surprisingly, it was at that very moment that the God of Mischief once again found himself slipping through time.
While the time slipping that happened to him in the first episode of Loki Season 2 may seem random, it became clearer as to why he had gained the ability by Episode 5, and this is because of his purpose to seek his TVA friends and save the timeline.
O.B. ensured that Loki understood what was at stake when it came to controlling his time slipping and that is that he can control it as long as he puts his mind to it.
The Loki Season 2 Finale Turned the God of Mischief Into the God of Stories
From the God of Mischief to the God of Stories, Loki walked a long journey to reach where he sat by the end of Loki Season 2.
It was everything the series was building him up to become. From seeking his most glorious purpose to learning about the truth behind his main Loki variant's death, Loki Season 2 just strengthened his narrative even more.
If anything, Season 2 had been building up to it by calling the out-of-bounds timelines as 'branching' timelines eventually led Loki to achieve his 'glorious purpose' (as with the title of the finale episode, as well), which is to become the God of Stories.
By becoming one, he was able to 'burn' the branching timelines, thus saving the Sacred Timeline altogether.
Yes, you heard that right. The God of Stories has officially entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And it can only get better from here on out.
