Tom Hiddleston recently opened up about how Christopher Reeve's performance as Superman inspired his portrayal of Loki in the MCU.

The Emmy-nominated actor's take on the God of Mischief has become one of the most iconic performances in the MCU since he debuted in the first Thor film and the success of his portrayal has led to his own TV series.

We've also seen for the past few years that Hiddleston has a strong passion and adoration for the character despite being a villain during the earlier years of his tenure in the role.

In a recent interview, Hiddleston revealed that he took inspiration for his Loki portrayal from Christopher Reeve's performance as Superman.

He was looking for an example of a performance where an actor found a way to humanize his character despite being a mythical figure.

"I remember thinking, This is almost Shakespearean, this language. What’s the best example I can [look to] of an actor who managed to humanize and make real this elevated world of myth?" the actor explained.

Fortunately, Hiddleston saw Reeve's Superman as an embodiment of what he was looking for.

"He’s masterful in that film. In a way, it’s a similar premise: He’s a god or he’s a being from a different realm, and it’s not naturalistic in the way that we might expect," he said.

"He does it so truthfully, and it’s so clear and clean and open and honest. I thought, If I can even approximate or get close to the kind of clarity that Christopher Reeve had in those films, I’ll be lucky."

A lot of fans would agree that Hiddleston successfully did the same for his portrayal of Loki in the MCU as he also humanized the character despite being a godly figure and his villainous personality in the earlier years of the franchise.

It also helps that Loki had a character development throughout his appearances in the MCU, and in the end, fans were also able to embrace his growth and relate to his journey.

So far, Marvel Studios has not confirmed Hiddleston's next MCU appearance, but reports have suggested that we might see him again in the upcoming Avengers movies.
