Kate Middleton is dressing up for her future role, according to a fashion expert. The shift in Middleton's wardrobe became noticeable when she became the new Princess of Wales.

Kate Middleton Followed Queen Elizabeth's Fashion At The 2023 BAFTAs?

Celebrity and royal fashion expert Miranda Holder shared her thoughts about Kate Middleton's outfit at the 2023 BAFTA awards. She recycled a white one-shoulder Alexander McQueen dressed and accessorized with a "dramatic monochrome" velvet opera gloves that complemented her husband Prince William's velvet black tuxedo.

Holder pointed out how Middleton's wardrobe changed.

"Since gaining the title of Princess of Wales, Kate’s style has evolved into something more refined and confident, as she takes on this new role with gusto, looking every inch our future queen."

The style expert noticed Middleton's more polished and poised look. She was also convinced that Prince William's wife took "a leaf out of the queen's guidebook" by wearing the bold opera gloves just like how the Queen wore bright, eye-catching outfits to be easily noticed.

"The stark contrast of the black and white against the red carpet ensured that Kate was easily spotted, the princess taking a leaf out of the queen’s guidebook, as her Majesty would always dress to be seen in a crowd, out of courtesy to the public."

The fashion expert added.

"This was Kate at her most confident and bold. The opera gloves were a daring choice and have divided opinions, but personally, I feel that they were a genius move. Evening gloves have featured on the runways at fashion week for the last couple of seasons, but have never really filtered down into the mainstream, rendering them a very fashion-forward and unusually avant-garde choice for Kate."

Kate Middleton's Opera Gloves Polarizing?

While the experts approved Middleton's decision to wear opera gloves at the BAFTAs, several netizens didn't like it. Some of them believed that the gloves were unnecessary and didn't add any sense to her outfit. Middleton's opera gloves were polarizing.

One netizen wrote:

"I know there's some bizarre embargo on s--t talking Kate Middleton since she became Princess of Wales. Fine. Beautiful dress. The styling on this is horrendous. I love a good recycle, but the shoulder with the length of the gloves is SO bad. The bag blends with her hand. Just no."

Another claimed, echoing the same sentiment:

"I'll admit, I'm not the biggest Kate Middleton fan, but damn girl, those gloves, earrings and purse have got to go. The dress is so pretty to be destroyed by all the extras. Joan Rivers would have had a Field Day!!"

Holder previously said that the addition of the opera gloves contrasted Middleton's "soft and fashion look" and only solidified her status as a "fashion icon."

Genevieve James, creative director at royal glove supplier Cornelia James, echoed the same sentiment, saying, "opera gloves are transformative."

"They turn any event into an occasion and a dress into a statement," James told People.

James also pointed out big Hollywood stars like Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth rarely attend red-carpet events without fitted gloves. She said:

"Imagine Audrey Hepburn in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' without the gloves — it's just another little black dress. With the gloves, it becomes iconic and emblematic of our age — always relevant, always contemporary," James told the outlet.
