Prince Harry and Prince William were very close growing up, at least, that's what the public witnessed. However, the Duke of Sussex shattered a lot of misconceptions about their relationship in his memoir Spare. He also shared a confrontation when his big brother used their "soul-crushing vow."
Prince William Tried To Convince Prince Harry With 'Soul-Crushing Vow'
The Duke of Sussex shared a lot of intimate details about his family in his book. He detailed a secret meeting with his father, King Charles, and brother Prince William at the Frogmore gardens after Prince Philip's funeral.
Prince Harry said he wanted to go home and reunite with his family in Montecito, California. But before that, he met with his father and brother.
He recalled how Prince William allegedly "grabbed me again, twisting me to maintain eye contact," Newsweek reported.
"Harold, you must listen to me! I just want you to be happy, Harold," Prince William reportedly told Prince Harry. However, Meghan Marke's husband said, the words "stopped" him because his big brother told him, "I swear, I swear on Mummy's life."
"He stopped. I stopped. Pa stopped," Prince Harry wrote.
"He'd gone there. He'd used the secret code, the universal password. Ever since we were boys those three words were to be used only in times of extreme crisis. On Mummy's life."
Prince Harry said that they only used the "soul-crushing vow for times when one of us needed to be heard, to be believed, quickly. For times when nothing else would do." However, that time, it didn't work on him.
"It stopped me cold, as it was meant to. Not because he'd used it, but because it didn't work. I simply didn't believe him, didn't fully trust him. And vice versa."
Prince Harry's Other Allegations Against Prince William In Spare
The Duke of Sussex made countless allegations against his brother in his book. He alleged that the future king physically attacked him when they argued over his wife, Meghan Markle.
He also alleged that it was Prince William and Kate Middleton who convinced him to wear the controversial Nazi uniform at a costume party.
Meanwhile, psychologist Raj Persaud weighed in on Prince Harry's feelings toward his big brother. The psychiatrist believed that Prince Harry was discontented with his own life because he keeps on comparing himself to Prince William, who is the future king of Britain, something that he would never ever accomplish.
"The psychology of the comparison effect says that you never feel good about how well you're doing in life, in some kind of objective sense," the expert said.

"How good you feel about your life, isn't dependent on how well you're actually doing, it depends on who you compare yourself to. In this particular case, maybe Harry, or someone second in line to the throne of England, would always be comparing themselves to the first in line and maybe that comparison means that no matter how well they're doing, they never feel they're doing as well as the person they're comparing themselves to."
