However, while the character, Ms. Marvel, is canon, her powers from the comics were altered in the show to fit the current narrative of the fourth phase of the MCU. This controversial change has sparkes some debates online but the co-creator of the character, Sana Amanat, clarified that this change in powers are approved by the makers of the superheroine.

In the comics, Ms. Marvel is much like Mister Fantastic who can alter her body to lengths, shapes, and sizes at will. She is an Inhuman who transformed when the Terrigen Mist was released by Black Bolt to Earth.

For the series, Ms. Marvel has powers of light which came from ancient bands she found in their attic that when worn, granted her powers. It is speculated that these are nega-bands which are ancient relics that whosoever wears it gains powers like energy manipulation and super strength.
