Is Marvel's Hawkeye Worth Watching?

It's the inner hero in a person that makes Hawkeye an appealing and heartwarming story -- perfect for the holidays, too.
6.5 out of 10

Hawkeye is a much typical series than those previously released such as WandaVision, Loki, and What If..? It is more of the same vein as that of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier where a problem from the past gets carried over and it needs to be done to be able to finally come to a close. Still, it passes the benchmark in introducing pivotal characters in the MCU.

It was packed with so much information that there were storylines that were brushed off. The first episode had a cliffhanger on who killed Armand III and it was only until the final episode that it was revealed in a very anticlimactic way. Another is the quest of Yelena in finding and killing Clint Barton which felt rushed and just inserted for the sake of having another problem while facing the Tracksuit mafia.

The arrival of Kingpin raised the heat, only to have him possibly killed in the finale. While there is a big chance that he would still be alive, having such a powerful supervillain is not something that should feel like an afterthought. What’s good is that the characters of Kate Bishop, Eleanor, and Maya Lopez were all well established. Their characters were given the spotlight with the right amount of screen time.

Possibly the best tease for the series is a tie: what comes next for Kingpin and the commonly overlooked watch which turns out to be Laura’s and it hints at her being a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent. Kingpin, of course, is someone much-awaited and with Matt Murdock being in the MCU as well, it’s nothing new if they would meet again. As for Laura Barton’s story, she has been theorized to be the Mockingbird.

Of all the series released, it is the most accurate when it comes to the timing of its airing. The holiday season was perfectly inculcated to the storyline that Clint had to come home to his family. The use of Christmas songs in relation to what is happening perfectly sets the tone of what message the episode would like to convey.

There is no news as to the second season of the show but if it would not have one, the whole story is already complete. It served its purpose of closing out the Ronin arc and introducing the next big marksman in the MCU. If there would be another, it’s a whole new start. With Echo being confirmed as a spinoff, Maya Lopez will be having her own spotlight.

Is Hawkeye worth watching? Yes, it is. It remains to be canon to the MCU and considering that everything is so intricately connected to each other, missing one could definitely mean some confusion to another.
