The introduction of Jane as the Mighty Thor worried a lot of fans for the fate of the God of Thunder as he might have found someone to pass the baton to like the other Avengers in MCU Phase Four. However, Thor: Love and Thunder had different plans for her. Is she really dead or can she come back in future projects?
Is Jane Dead in Thor: Love and Thunder?
Thor: Love and Thunder brings back Jane Foster in the life of Thor in the most uncanny way possible – she becomes the Mighty Thor, the new wielder of the Mjolnir. It surprised the God of Thunder, even had him checking if he's still worthy of his hammer, but mostly, it's just the return of the love of his life that made his heart skip beats once more.
However, while being the Mighty Thor has its perks like having powers and an ultra-buff body, it also has its cons for Jane. Wielding the Mjolnir temporarily gives her invulnerability but it also deteriorates her already frail body.
It was revealed in Thor: Love and Thunder that Jane was diagnosed with Stage Four cancer. With her life in danger, the Mjolnir called upon her and even when it is broken by Hela, the arrival of Jane in New Asgard reforged the hammer and made her the new wielder.

Whether she is worthy or not, it was also shown in Thor: Love and Thunder that Thor himself vested an enchantment on the Mjolnir by making it promise to protect Jane at all costs. The Mjolnir obeys but making Jane wield it only worsens the cancer. Every time she becomes the Mighty Thor, the cancer spreads faster.
In the end of Thor: Love and Thunder, even when Thor asked her to stay at the hospital, she knew she had to help Thor fight Gorr. Knowing that it may be the list time she wields the Mjolnir, Jane brought herself to the temple of Eternity to save the children of Asgard held captive by the villain and help Thor defeat Gorr.
Jane's life withers as she uses her remaining strength to be the Mighty Thor. Dying in the hands of Thor, she reminded him to always choose love and keep his heart open, to which Thor promises to do so, starting with taking care of Gorr's daughter.
In the myths, when a god dies, the god disperses and turns into golden dust. It was seen when Odin died in Thor: Ragnarok. When Jane died, she vanished into the air as golden dust, meaning, she died as a goddess of Asgard.
In the end-credits scene, just after all the credits rolled, Jane is back on the screens surrounded with bright light before arriving into what looks like Asgard, except for dead Asgardians. There, Heimdall is waiting for her on the rainbow bridge in the Asgardian afterlife.
