Drax the Destroyer is portrayed by Dave Bautista since the character made its debut in the 2014 film of Guardians of the Galaxy and since then, his character appeared on the second Guardians movie and in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. More than the comedic relief, Drax the Destroyer has been a prominent character completing the team, as he is in the comics.

Dave Bautista credits his portrayal of Drax as the start of his Hollywood journey and he is looking forward to the bittersweet end of his portrayal as the said character. Said role landed him his part in the 007 franchise and his lead in My Spy and Army of the Dead. He also has an upcoming film, Dune.

Drax, in the MCU, has had a colorful journey that started with revenge on Thanos killing his wife and daughter. Joining the Guardians gave him friends for keeps, even having a sense of humor, best of his comedic lines would surely be "Why is Gamora" in Avengers: Infinity War. His character had been shaped to support the others and he is always down for a brute fight.

Dave Bautista's preparations for the role was not easy especially with the make-up and prosthetics he had to wear in every shoot. All those blue on him are not CGI, it's the wonderful work of the make-up team. He embodied the character so well, having to say goodbye to it in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would definitely be bittersweet.

In a chat with ComicBook.com, Bautista shared, "It's our third film. We're going to wrap it up. And it's been a hell of a journey with a few bumps. So I'm looking forward to this, man. My cast and obviously the director, James Gunn, they're like family to me. This is kind of where my journey started. It's come full circle and I'm looking forward to wrapping it up."

Bautista added," And it's a bittersweet... I mean, I've been doing Guardians since 2013. And, you know, when this comes out, you know, it'll be in 2023, so that's a, you know, 10-year journey." He also grew fond of his character, "You know, it seems to be Drax's pattern that no matter what his goal is, he gets his ass kicked. No superhero has ever gotten their ass kicked so much as Drax!"

The end, of course, is inevitable. "You know, all things must end. And, you know, I'm looking forward to kind of wrapping this up with my friends and family," said Bautista.

See Drax one last time in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 scheduled for release in 2023.
