Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Will Be Last MCU Film for James Gunn and Dave Bautista

There is little doubt that expectations are high for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. After all, the sequel has already gone through a major controversy when director James Gunn was fired then reinstated to the project.

However, it looks like Gunn is only returning to finish what he started. It has been confirmed that the upcoming Guardians sequel will be the last for Gunn and actor Dave Bautista.

Gunn is currently promoting The Suicide Squad but he has also discussed his plans for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 during this time. While talking to Entertainment Tonight, the filmmaker made it clear that he isn't working on another Guardians film after Vol. 3.

"The last Marvel project, who knows, but I see it as my last Guardians movie," Gunn said. "I'm a guy who never says never because I've seen too many people say 'never' and be pulled back into the fray, so I wouldn't say that. But I see it as being my last Guardians movie."

Interestingly, he continued by stating that he isn't the only one who has no plans of working on another Guardians film.

"I know Dave sees it as being his last Guardians movie, and Dave and I are pretty much attached to the hip on those projects. So I don't see me going on and doing any more after that," Gunn said.

It's distressing news for fans who want more Guardians films but it's hardly a huge surprise. After all, both Gunn and Bautista have been vocal about not wanting to do more movies for the franchise after Vol. 3.

Although Vol. 3 is supposed to be the last Guardians film, it isn't the final project for the franchise. Gunn is also helming the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which is set to premiere on Disney+ in December 2022. However, it looks like the franchise is coming to an end with the third Guardians movie.

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to begin production in November this year and should be completed by early 2022. It is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.
