Russo Brothers Reportedly Uncertain About Directing Another MCU Film After Scarlett Johansson Lawsuit

Joe and Anthony Russo have been Marvel Studios' most trusted directors since they first worked on Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But is it possible that the Russo brothers are about to put an end to that long partnership? A new report suggests that the duo is at an impasse on helming another Marvel Cinematic Universe project after Scarlett Johansson's lawsuit against Disney.

Johansson decided to file a lawsuit against Disney for allegedly breaching her contract for not giving Black Widow a full theatrical release. The House of Mouse then shot back at the Avengers: Endgame actress, claiming the lawsuit was insensitive at the time of COVID-19. Since then, the world has watched closely waiting for one or the other to make another move.

In the meantime, Wall Street Journal reports that the Russo Brothers are somehow affected by the lawsuit.

"Since the lawsuit, brothers Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, directors of Marvel's Avengers: Endgame, the highest-grossing movie of all time, hit an impasse in negotiations to direct another Marvel movie. The Johansson dispute left them unsure how their next movie would be distributed and how they would be paid, according to people familiar with the matter," the report reads.

It was noted that the Russo brothers did not offer a comment. Still, it's enough for fans to start worrying that the filmmakers will not return to work on another MCU movie.

It's important to remember that Marvel was not named in Johansson's lawsuit. Still, the Russos have a reason for their concern since the House of Mouse is the one who has the last say on how their projects should be released.

The Russo brothers have worked on four MCU films included The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity, and Endgame.
