If you watched Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, you’d know that jumping multiverses holds consequences. In this case, staying too long in a universe where you don’t belong could lead you to glitching uncontrollably.

Think Wreck-It-Ralph’s Penelope von Schweetz. She was removed from the program of her own game, leading her and the Candy Kingdom to believe she never belonged in the system. It’s similar to the Spider-Verse.

However, the Spider-Verse’s glitching could eventually lead to your death.

In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, when Gwen and Spider-Man 2099 led Miles to come to headquarters in Earth-928, Miles already kept glitching. That is, until he was offered a glitching immunity bracelet, like the rest were given to stay longer in HQ.

After Miles tried to escape the Spider Society headquarters, he was convinced he had transported himself back home to Earth-1610, only to find out he was actually in Earth-42, where the spider that bit him came from.

Miles kept glitching since the moment he arrived there, and though his Earth-42 mother and Uncle Aaron didn’t notice the glitching, it was evident he was suffering.

The question is, how come when Miles continued to stay in Earth-1610, he never glitched from Earth-42 spider’s DNA flowing in him? How come he was still recognized as a part of Earth-1610 and yet the machine didn’t?

Well, it goes back to what Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man 2099) told him. Miles was never really supposed to be Spider-Man in the first place.

Miles Morales is the first ever Spider-Man anomaly to exist, which explains why Miguel hated the idea of him existing and coming with Gwen in the first place.

Now, that said, it is possible that because Miles is an anomaly in the data, this also means the rules don’t necessarily apply to him as it normally would.

Then again, another viewpoint to consider here is that the machine merely found a small amount of data of Earth-42’s spider in his system. Thus, glitching in Earth-1610 would be ridiculous since the majority of his DNA belongs there.

The Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse creators have yet to elaborate or confirm on which Earth reality Miles Morales really belongs to. So the least we can do is provide theories.

Canonically, in the Spider-Verse comics, the spider that bit Miles not only allows him to heal himself to a certain extent after every fight and battle he encounters, but it also makes him immortal.

See, the Earth-42 spider shown in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse actually came from Norman Osborn’s Osborn Industries. The spider supposedly carried a cure to deadly diseases, but it got transferred into Miles’ DNA.

But the Spider-Verse movies have yet to unlock this potential within Miles, even with the part about getting to heal himself.

However, Miles did almost get himself killed a bunch of times. Not just in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse, but even in Insomniac’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

As of writing, Miles has not yet died in any alternate reality. Although Miguel O’Hara did reveal that the Spider-Verse has lost many Peter Parkers / Spider-Men in the past.

Considering that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse just came out on June 2, we have yet to know what will happen to Miles Morales by the end of the Spider-Verse franchise.

The ending indicated Miles had no other way to escape Earth-42 so he could return home. In fact, the last time we see him before he disappears from the screen is his hands emulating his hidden unique ability as Spider-Man.

With Gwen gathering their previous alliances with Peter B. Parker, Spider-Ham, Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker, alongside Spider-Punk and Spider-Man India, Miles’ future in the Spider-Verse is not looking grim at all.
