Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will have two parts. The third film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 29, 2024.

In December 2021, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the film’s writers and producers, revealed that the sequel to Into the Spider-Verse would be split into two parts. In a recent interview with IGN, Miller talked about the decision to split Across the Spider-Verse into two parts:

“For a long time, we were trying to jam two movies into one, and then we realized the movie was telling us this was a whole complete arc of a story and this really was the second part of the trilogy, and so it just made a lot more sense then. Because it has a beginning and middle and end for all the characters, they all grow and they all have an arc. It felt like this is where the movie was telling us this is its own thing.”

In addition to a third film, a female-led spin-off film focusing on Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen, Cindy Moon/Silk, and Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman is in development. Sony confirmed that Across the Spider-Verse would serve as a “launching pad” for the Spider-Women spin-off.

In the sequel to Into the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales/Spider-Man journeys with Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman across the multiverse where he meets a team of Spider-People known as the Spider-Society, led by Miguel O’Hara.

Miles needs to save the universe from the villain Spot, but he finds himself in conflict with the Spider-Society on how to handle the new threat. Additionally, we can expect some easter eggs, like the one that was teased in the trailer where Miguel makes a reference to the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, saying "And don't even get me started on Doctor Strange and that little nerd on Earth-199999."

The film is set over a year after the events of Into the Spider-Verse and has an official runtime of 140 minutes or two hours and 20 minutes in total.
