Ahead of the series’ release, the Urusei Yatsura remake announced its Season 1 release plans along with the addition of a popular Demon Slayer voice actor in the cast.

The announcement was made via a post on the Urusei Yatsura remake official Twitter. The post confirmed that season 1 of the series will air over two consecutive seasons. This means Urusei Yatsura Season 1 will air from Fall 2022 to Winter 2023.

Previously, it was announced that the series will have 46 episodes in total, meaning the first season will likely be the first half of the show.

Currently, there’s no word yet on when Urusei Yatsura Season 2. Though it’s likely that the second season will also air in two consecutive seasons.

As for the new voice actor, the Tweet also revealed that Kana Hanazawa is joining the Urusei Yatsura remake cast. Hanazawa is a popular voice actor known for voicing Mitsuri Kanroji from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

Hanazawa is also known for a range of other iconic roles, including Nadeko Sengoku from the Monogatari series, Anri Sonohara from Durarara!!, Mayuri Shiina from Steins;Gate, Akane Tsunemori from Psycho-Pass, and Kosaki Onodera from Nisekoi.

For this anime, Hanazawa is voicing Ran, an alien girl who is the childhood friend of the main character, Lum.

Speaking on her role, Hanazawa mentioned how she was excited to be part of the remake as she had fond memories of Urusei Yatsura in her youth. Specifically, she loved Lum’s Love Song, and it continues to be a favorite of hers to sing in karaoke.

Urusei Yatsura is based on the iconic romantic-comedy manga of the same name by Rumiko Takahashi, the creator of Ranma ½ and Inuyasha. The manga was initially released in 1978, and it received its first anime adaptation in 1981.

The series follows Ataru Moroboshi, a lecherous high school student who is chosen as Earth’s defender from an alien invasion. Ataru faced off against Lum, a beautiful alien in a game of tag with Earth’s freedom on the line.

While Ataru won the game, his celebration was misinterpreted by Lum as a marriage proposal. Thus began their “marriage” and the hijinks that came along with it.

The Urusei Yatsura remake will release in Japan on Fuji TV’s Noitamina block in October 2022.
