The Boy and the Heron Will Return to North American Theatres

Fans of Hayao Miyazaki’s animated films celebrated over the weekend as the legendary animator’s latest movie, The Boy and the Heron, bagged its second Best Animated Feature Film award during this year’s 96th Academy Awards night.

As if the second Academy Award win wasn't enough, Studio Ghibli has announced a special treat for fans. The Boy and the Heron will return to North American theaters for a limited re-run, allowing fans to relive the magic and celebrate the movie in a cinematic setting.

Since both Toshio Suzuki and Hayao Miyazaki were not present during the Oscars awards night, the GKids Films official X account took to social media on Sunday to post Suzuki’s message of thanks.

The post also stated, “THE BOY AND THE HERON will return to North American theatres for a celebratory re-release soon.”

Unfortunately, GKids Films did not reveal any details about the re-run. However, we could say that no details are available as the parties still need to iron out kinks. It’s best to stay tuned for additional information as they become available.

The Boy and the Heron’s second Oscar victory edged out competitors like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Disney’s Elemental. Cast, filmmakers, and fans alike seemed unhappy with the loss, as evidenced by posts in X that popped up right after the ceremony.

Voice actor Shameik Moore initially responded by saying: “Robbed” in a post made immediately after the awards night concluded.

Moore eventually made a follow-up post expressing respect for the winners but immediately launched into a tirade, claiming their film didn’t suffer a loss.

Instead, Moore claimed that it had impacted many lives and that life goes on even if they didn’t receive the acknowledgment for that supposed impact.

Across the Spider-Verse producer Christopher Miller was subtler with his disappointment, stating that losing to the GOAT (Greatest of all time) is better.
