Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3 Episode 6 is finally here and the fight against Hantengu's clones continues. But this time, fans also got to see a heartwrenching scene between Genya and Sanemi Shinazugawa that wasn't featured in the manga.
In Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 6, Tanjiro Kamado discovers that beheading Hantengu's four emotions is not enough to kill the Upper Rank Four. Once they begin regenerating, Tanjiro realizes that there is a fifth clone and orders Genya Shinazugawa to go after it after Genya declares that he will become a Hashira.
Genya chases the fifth Hantengu form while Tanjiro and Nezuko keep the other clones at bay. Although he catches up with it, Genya is unable to decapitate the demon as it causes his sword to break. Even the Nichirin gun is not effective and before Genya could react, Sekido attacks him with his lightning staff.
As Genya prepares for his death, he remembers his brother and what happened in the past that led to them joining the Demon Slayer Corps. After Genya ponders on his small mother and his abusive father who was killed, he recalls the fateful night that changed their lives.
In an anime-only scene, a young Genya lies awake worrying about his mother coming home late. He then realizes that his older brother Sanemi is also awake and decides to go look for their mother. When Genya volunteers to join him, Sanemi reminds his little brother about his promise. This immediately makes Genya change his mind and agree to watch their younger siblings while Sanemi leaves to find their mother.
The scene concludes with Genya realizing that his younger siblings have awakened so they all wait for Sanemi and their mother's return. What happens next is a terrifying ordeal that appears in Demon Slayer Chapter 115.
It's only a small change from what happens in the manga but the brief interaction between Genya and Sanemi was heartwrenching considering they would soon fail at their promise to protect their family.
It also confirms that Genya and Sanemi were very close before their entire family was killed by a demon that turned out to be their mother.
