Are There Guns in Demon Slayer?

The Demon Slayers in the Demon Slayer Corps are known to wield Nichirin Swords for slaying demons.

However, to everyone’s surprise, in Demon Slayer Season 3, Genya is shown using a Western double-barreled shotgun.

When battling against powerful Upper-Rank demons, the use of guns can be game-changing.

Genya’s double-barreled gun fires bullets made of Scarlet Ore and Scarlet Crimson Iron Sand.

These are the same materials used in crafting a Nichirin Sword. So, they are as capable as the Nichirin blades in killing demons.

However, guns are still relatively a less preferred weapon of choice by the Demon Slayers.

The first appearance of the Nichirin gun in the universe of Demon Slayer happens in the Swordsmith Village arc.

That brings us to the characters who wield these weapons and their choice of guns.

Let's start with Genya appearing with his Western double-barreled shotgun to battle against Upper-Rank Four Hantengu’s manifestations – Sekido and Karaku.

Genya uses his shotgun for close-range combats. The bullets in his shotgun are lethal enough to decapitate or obliterate the demons.

He possesses an outstanding ability to wield his double-barreled shotgun. Genya showcases his gun-slinging skills against Upper-Rank Four and One.

Before choosing the gun as his main weapon, he used a short blade called the Nichirin Wakizashi.

Going back to Genya’s gun and bullets, after consuming the cells of Upper-Rank Four and One, Genya devised a new technique.

This technique allowed him to fuse his demon-transformed cells with his bullets and gun.

Now, when Genya fires his gun, he can manipulate the direction and velocity of the bullets to ensure he hits his target.

He used this technique against Kokushibo when his bullets moved around the demon’s sword and got buried inside Kokushibo’s flesh.

As soon as the bullets enter the target’s flesh, they grow into a massive tree and entangle the opponent, paralyzing them.

Another character who is known to use guns is Hairo, the main villain of Kyojuro Rengoku’s Story.

Hairo is known to have a big collection of guns that were available in the Taisho era.

His arsenal of guns includes bolt-style rifles, pistols, sub-machine guns, shotguns, and a small rotating minigun.

Interestingly, the minigun came out a lot later but a prototype of the first minigun was already out during that time period.

For closed-ranged battles, Hairo also had a katana handy.
