I don't know about you, but Aquatope on White Sand Episode 18 made me wish I worked in an aquarium. Another slice of life episode, but a particularly entertaining one, with all the characters we've come to love deciding to dress up as sea creatures, as a marketing strategy!

The original 24-episode anime has my heart, and I'm not ashamed to say it. At this point, everything the characters do will just be fun and cute to watch.

Episode 18 is Akari's moment to shine! The part-time suggests doing cosplay at work, to encourage visitors to learn more about marine life. Kukuru is enthusiastic about it, but when told to implement and organize it herself, she's a bit disappointed. In fact, Kukuru had wanted Akari to take over herself, since it was her own idea.

Through this incident, the anime brings up to question of working to live, versus living to work. As a part-timer, Akari doesn't care much about her Aquarium job. Rather, she would be happy working anywhere to make ends meet. This is a bit difficult for Kukuru to understand, as working in Aquariums was always her dream. By the end of the episode, however, the two girls understand each other much better.

Watching her colleagues struggle with everyday things at work, Akari understands that even those who love their job aren't happy all the time. This realization helps Akari enjoy work more, as it removes the pressure to perform cheerfully all the time. The cosplay is a success that makes her appreciate marine life a bit more - but go watch the episode as I won't spoil people's costumes!

Aquatope of White Sand Episode 19 is going to air next Friday, the 12th of November for subscribed Crunchyroll users. Due to time zone differences, many international fans will be able to stream it from November 11 depending on where they are in the world. Non-subscribed users will have to wait an extra week, so they will be able to stream Episode 19 online later, but episode 18 will be available to everyone for free with ads by November 12.
