Whether or not you like slice-of-life anime, you must have heard of Aquatope of White Sand. The original P. A. Works anime counts itself among the works that are being positively received during the Spring 2021 anime season and many fans are invested in the beautifully animated small-town setting and the two relatable main characters. So, for how many more weeks can we expect to relax in Gama Gama Aquarium with new episodes?

First, a short overview: Aquatrope of White Sand or Shiroi Suna no Aquatrope follows two teenage girls; Kukuru, an orphan high-school girl who spends her summer working as a director for her grandparents' aquarium; and Fuuka, who fails as a pop idol and gets fired. Grieving her failed dream, Fuuka finds herself in Okinawa, where she quickly accepts a job as a live-in assistant in Kukuru's aquarium.

Soon, Fuuka finds out that things aren't as idyllic as they seem. Fuuka might be living her dream, but she's in danger of losing her beloved aquarium due to financial trouble. Fuuka decides to help Kukuru with her dream, and a friendship develops, with the potential to develop into a romance later on.

The show airs weekly on Crunchyroll, and it's been praised for the beautifully drawn characters, animals, and locations, as well as the overall wholesome and heart-warming atmosphere. What some viewers have criticized, is the slow pace, as not much has happened in the first few episodes and it's hard to tell where the show is going, beyond everyday occurrences.

It looks like there's a good reason for that: Aquatrope of White Sand will have a total of 24 episodes. Therefore, a slow-burning relationship and a relaxed plot aren't as much of a problem as they would be in a shorter anime since we can still expect things to pick up while having more than the adequate taste of the beautiful setting.

At the time of writing, little is known about the future of the series, but if more content, or even a dub, are announced at a later time, we'll be sure to update you.

Other anime you can check out this season include Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy and Mother of the Goddess' Dormitory.
