Now that the MCU is in the Multiverse Saga, we've been hearing rumors that several cast members from past Marvel movies will return in Avengers: Secret Wars for a huge crossover between all Marvel cinematic properties. So far, Marvel Studios remains mum whether they have this kind of ambitious plan for the upcoming event film in the MCU.
Considering that they were able to bring back Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier (albeit a different variant) in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine soon in Deadpool 3, it seems inevitable that a lot of the original X-Men actors will make their return in the MCU soon.
Speaking recently with The Wrap (via The Direct), James Marsden, who played Cyclops in the original X-Men films, was asked whether he is open to reprising the role in the MCU if ever Marvel Studios gives him a call. Fortunately, he gave an affirming response that suggests that a return is a huge possibility.
"Sure. Yeah, I mean, I’m all about material, and what the story is, and what the character would be doing, but it’s a character that I played and it’s very close to my heart," the actor said.
"And that family, I miss it dearly. We created a very special thing with the first couple of X-Men movies and yeah, I’d love to explore that. But you know, [I] would want to see what that looks like first, I guess."
It is great to hear that Marsden is very much open to reprising the role and it sounds like we can expect his return if ever he gets the call from Marvel Studios. Now that the MCU is exploring the multiverse, it is inevitable for someone like him to return at some point for a swan song.
For now, let's just wait and see whether it will happen. Either way, it is exciting to hear the possibility and a lot of fans will definitely be on board with the idea as proven by the responses to Stewart's recent cameo and the hype on the announcement regarding Jackman's return.
