Venom does not appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, but a character from the Venom universe does. Peggy Lu’s Mrs. Chen appears in the second Spider-Verse film.

But this isn’t much of a surprise considering that international promotional material already featured a clip of the villain Spot appearing in Mrs. Chen’s convenience store.

As you may recall, Mrs. Chen owns a convenience store that Eddie Brock always goes to. While she’s a minor character in the Venom films, she becomes Venom’s temporary host in the second Venom film, Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the villain Spot discovers that he can actually open portals and jump into different dimensions. He even says that the power of the multiverse is in the palm of his hand.

Exploring his powers, Spot tries to travel to different universes. He then arrives in Earth-688, Chinatown, specifically in Mrs. Chen’s convenience store.

Mrs. Chen asks Spot “What do you want?” Spot responds “I'm robbing you 'cause I'm a bad guy.”

Additionally, Spot explains that he’s some kind of interdimensional being and says that it’s probably just another normal day for Mrs. Chen.

So, while Venom does not appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the movie does feature a live-action character from Tom Hardy’s Venom universe.

Given that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s live-action versions of Spider-Man appear in Across the Spider-Verse (although through archive footage from their respective films), it’s not impossible for Tom Hardy’s Venom to appear in the third film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

And now that the live-action Venom universe is featured in Across the Spider-Verse, we can hope for Tom Hardy’s Venom to appear in the animated Spider-Verse.

Additionally, in an interview with Collider, the film’s writers and producers Phil Lord and Chis Miller said that there will be a lot of new characters in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

“Believe it or not. You thought that you've seen every Spider-Person that you could imagine, but not every Spider-Person we can imagine,” Lord said.

“We saved several!” Miller added.

Anything is possible in a multiverse setup anyway. So, we can expect more cameos and surprises in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, compared to the ones we got in the second film, Across the Spider-Verse.
