Many Fast & Furious characters were expected to return in the tenth installment of The Fast Saga, Fast X. There were reports of surprise cameos as well.

So, who actually comes back in Fast X? Who returns in Fast X? And who are the characters that don’t appear in the latest Fast film?

Is Paul Walker in Fast X?

Paul Walker's Brian O'Conner does not return in the present-day timeline of Fast X. In Fast X, Paul Walker only returns in flashback scenes from Fast Five, which was clearly used to set up Dante Reyes’ character.

It must be noted that Paul Walker's Brian O’Conner is still alive in the Fast & Furious franchise. He’s mentioned in The Fate of the Furious, and a blue car appears at the end of F9, which signals Brian’s arrival for barbeque at the Toretto’s backyard.

Fast X pays tribute to the late series star Paul Walker in a scene where Dom is in his garage, looking at his pictures with Brian, with “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth playing in the background.

There's another scene where Dom reflects on his friendship with Brian while he was talking with Isabel (who's later revealed to be Elena's sister). Isabel shares how she and Elena were very different because she's a street racer while her late sister was a cop.

Dom shares that a cop and a street racer can be very alike. "Trust me. I know," he tells Isabel.

Additionally, Meadow Walker (Paul Walker’s daughter) makes a cameo appearance. Commenting on Paul Walker's return in Fast X, director Louis Leterrier said in an interview with Total Film (via GamesRadar):

“Well, Brian is very much alive in the world of Fast & Furious, and they’ve teased him a lot in the previous movies. In 9, we see the car coming. It’s something that is planned. This movie jumps back and forth between the past and the present. You will see Brian in the past, you won’t see Brian in the present. It’s something that everybody has to be on board with. The Walker family is still very much a part of this franchise, you’ll see how in this movie. It just has to be the right moment, the right tone. I think what James Wan did at the end of 7 was perfect. The tone was perfect. Brian has to re-enter the franchise as perfectly as he left it.”

Additionally, actress Jordana Brewster talked about Brian’s appearance in Fast X during the film’s red carpet premiere in Rome:

“There’s a lot of footage from Fast Five, so Brian’s actually in the film, which is really cool,” said Brewster from the Fast X red carpet. “It’s a really nice way to integrate him back into the franchise, which is very awesome … His energy is always with me."

Fast X: Is Gisele Yashar Alive?

Yes, Gal Gadot returns in Fast X. Gisele Yashar is still alive after seemingly dying in Fast & Furious 6 to save Han Lue. Throughout the film, Letty is forced to work with Cipher in order to escape the black site prison in Antarctica.

And once they already escape, a submarine emerges from below. A woman using binoculars appears, and when she places the binoculars down, it is revealed to be Gisele. Gisele then smiles at them.

Since Cipher doesn’t seem surprised by Gisele’s appearance, it’s clear that the two are working together. But we don’t know yet why this is so.

While it’s not much of a surprise that Gisele is still alive considering the Fast & Furious franchise’s track record on life and death, the Fast X sequel needs to address how Gisele is still alive and what happened to her for the past years.

Is Luke Hobbs in Fast X?

Yup, Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs returns in Fast X. It can be recalled that at the end of Fast Five, Hobbs chooses to shoot Hernan Reyes dead.

In Fast X’s mid-credits scene, Hobbs finds a mobile phone ringing. When he picks it up, we hear Dante’s voice on the other line.

Dante tells Hobbs that while Dom was the reason Reyes’ car flipped, Hobbs pulled the trigger which led to the ultimate death of his father. Thus, Dante will come after Hobbs too.

But Hobbs doesn’t respond with fear and calls Dante a “sumbitch”. He then destroys the cellphone with his bare hands.

Hobbs’ appearance in the mid-credits scene clearly confirms that he will be returning in the Fast X sequel. Additionally, the return of Hobbs also raises questions as to whether there will be a Hobbs & Shaw 2 considering that Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw is also in Fast X.

But while Fast X does not really set up a Hobbs & Shaw 2, it’s good to see that Agent Luke Hobbs is back in action.

Is Sean Boswell in Fast X?

No, Sean Boswell is not a character who returns in Fast X. Tokyo Drift’s Lucas Black doesn’t appear in the latest Fast & Furious film.

Sean appears in Furious 7 where he and Dom race. They then talk about Han’s death, and Sean gives a picture of Gisele and Dom’s cross necklace.

In F9, we find Sean working in Germany, along with Twinkie and Earl. Roman and Tej meet them to get weapons, gear, and cars.

Later on, Sean and Earl help Roman and Tej go to outer space to destroy Otto’s satellite. At the end of the movie, Sean and his friends join Dom and the team for barbeque in the Toretto’s backyard.

While fans were expecting Sean to return in Fast X, he doesn’t make an appearance in the film. However, since Fast X might be a trilogy, we can hope to see Sean back in the Fast X sequel and have a barbeque scene with everyone complete.

Fast X: Where is Mr. Nobody?

Mr. Nobody is also not a character who returns in Fast X. In Fast X, Mr. Nobody is nowhere to be found. The movie does not tell us exactly where Mr. Nobody is or if he survived the crash in F9.

It seems that no one is aware of Mr. Nobody’s whereabouts, including the Agency. We don’t get answers from his daughter Tess as well.

The Agency’s new leader, Aimes, only talks with Tess about the fact that Mr. Nobody is missing. But where he really is still remains a mystery.

But even if Mr. Nobody can be presumed dead, since characters in the Fast & Furious franchise do not really stay dead, we can probably expect to see Mr. Nobody again soon. And if he does return, we would probably see more of the family dynamic between Mr. Nobody and his daughter, just like what we saw with the Shaw family.

Additionally, Mr. Nobody has a lot of history with Dom and his crew. He aided them on multiple occasions and saved Han from his crash in Tokyo Drift. It was also revealed that he knew Gisele.

So, we can expect Mr. Nobody to help Dom and the team defeat Dante Reyes. There may be two more Fast films after all, so the next films could give us answers as to what really happened to Mr. Nobody. And perhaps we could expect more returns in the Fast X sequel.
