We know that Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw and Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs will be returning in Fast X. So, will we be getting another Fast movie with the two of them as leads? Will there be a Hobbs & Shaw 2?
Although it was confirmed that a sequel was in development, Hobbs & Shaw producer Kelly McCormick said in an interview with ComicBook.com that while they “would love to,” there are currently “no conversations at this time” despite the “seeds planted.”
Hobbs & Shaw Sequel Speculation
It seems that we won’t be getting a sequel for Hobbs & Shaw anytime soon. As to the fate of Hobbs & Shaw 2, McCormick said:
"I do feel like there were a lot of seeds planted to try to create a spinoff in a way that included a Kevin Hart and a Ryan Reynolds and sort of all that kind of stuff. And that was intentional but not necessarily because we had plans in mind just because it would be fun to have different players for them to play with if anybody or we wanted to go for it in a different way. So, you know, I don't know, I mean Dwayne's a really busy guy and you know, he would be the one to motivate all of that. So, you know, we're ready if he wants to and until then he's just dominating so all power to him."
Additionally, even though Statham and The Rock will be returning in Fast X, Hobbs & Shaw does not have many ties to the main film series. In the movie, we see that the spin-off does not connect much to Dominic Toretto’s story.
The film has a plot independent of the stories in The Fast Saga. It follows Hobbs & Shaw joining forces (along with Hattie, Deckard’s sister) to take down Brixton Lore, a terrorist who threatens the world with a deadly virus.
However, should there be a sequel, it could keep the franchise alive even after The Fast Saga ends. But if a sequel does not take place, at least we get to see Deckard Shaw and Luke Hobbs in Fast X.
