Who Is Saki Kikuiri in Maboroshi?
In Maboroshi, Saki Kikuiri is the only daughter of Mutsumi Sagami and Masamune Kikuiri in the real world. She is adorable and cheerful, and she brings genuine happiness to her parents.
During the Obon Festival, Saki had a misunderstanding with her parents, particularly her mother, Mutsumi.
She wanted to have a peppermint pipe, but Mutsumi declined her request and left her behind in the belief that she would come running after them like she normally does.
However, Saki did not follow her parents. Since then, Saki has been missing, leaving Mutsumi and Masamune in despair.
The husband and wife have been mourning Saki’s disappearance ever since that day, but they still come to the Obon Festival to remind them of Saki's last memory.
What Happened to Saki Kikuiri in Maboroshi?
In a sudden twist of events, Saki Kikuiri rode the train from reality to the static town of Mifuse. She was found by Masamune’s father, Akimune, sleeping inside the freight train.
Unlike other people, Saki has a strange odor, which Akimune thought was strange.
After finding Saki, Akimune wants to return her to the real world immediately since he believes that her existence will upset the balance in Mifuse in the long run.
Unfortunately, Mamuro Sagami intervened and decided to lock Saki in the 5th blast furnace within the steel factory.
He believes that Saki is the woman chosen by the gods, basically a divine woman. Since then, Mamoru has assigned his stepdaughter Mutsumi as Saki’s caretaker.
Are Saki and Itsumi the Same Person in Maboroshi?
Yes, Saki and Itsumi are the same person in Maboroshi. She was the wolf girl who developed feelings for Masamune, who was actually her father in the real world.
Masamune has been visiting Itsumi ever since he discovered her existence, so it didn’t take long before the wolf-girl fell in love (implied) with him.
Itsumi’s feelings have an impact on Mifuse, and the more her feelings get out of control, the more danger they pose to the residents. Just one tantrum from Itsumi can result in big cracks in the town of Mifuse!
