Who Dies in Frieren? All Deceased Characters and How They Died, Explained

For those wondering who dies in Frieren, the list is surprisingly not that long. Of course, while many characters have died in the decades after the Demon King’s defeat, many of the named characters are still alive.

So far, there are only a handful of major characters that are confirmed to have passed away. Meanwhile, there are slightly more named demons that have died, but the number is still quite low.

Spoiler Warning: This article includes spoilers for Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, so proceed with caution.

Who Dies in Frieren? All Deceased Human and Demon Characters

So far in the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime, there have been some on-screen deaths. For instance, some of Granat’s men died at the hands of demons.

Practically all these deaths are of minor, unnamed characters. For the major characters, only three humans have been confirmed to be dead. These include:

• Himmel – Himmel the Hero passed away at age 76 due to natural causes. This was the incident that made Frieren start her new journey to understand humans better.
• Heiter – Heiter died 20 years after Himmel’s death. Similar to Himmel, Heiter died of natural causes, though before his death, he was happy that Fern would be in good hands as Frieren’s apprentice.
• Flamme – Frieren’s master was a legendary mage who has been long dead. It’s not known how she passed away.

Meanwhile, more demons are confirmed to be dead in the anime. These are:

• Demon King – Defeated by the Hero’s Party decades ago. It’s not clear how the party was able to defeat him.
• Qual – Killed by Frieren and Fern in the Größe Forest. His seal was about to break, so Frieren decided to finally kill him.
• Aura – Killed by Frieren after Aura underestimates her mana when using the Scales of Obedience.
• Lügner – Killed by Fern in a fight at Granat’s Domain after she overwhelms him with her fast magic casting.
• Linie – Killed by Stark with a lightning strike.
• Draht – Killed by Frieren when he tried to kill her in the cell.

Does Fern Die in Frieren?

Some fans are also worried about Fern’s potential death. This idea came about because of the second ending credits animation of the first season.

While beautiful, the animation is being interpreted by some as implying either Fern or Frieren’s death given the imagery.

As there are no other hints regarding deaths for either character, it’s safe to say that Frieren or Fern won’t die anytime soon, if at all.

Of course, given Frieren’s lifespan as an elf, Fern dying before her is a foregone conclusion. It remains to be seen though if the manga’s story will reach that point.
