Frieren and Flamme's History
When the Demon King ordered Bazalt the Throne to attack Frieren’s hometown, the Great Mage Flamme arrived in the raid's aftermath.
There, she discovers a strange elven mage, whom she later identifies as Frieren.
Flamme quickly acknowledges Frieren’s mana, as it is significantly greater than hers. She also calls Frieren an impressive mage capable of dealing with one of the Demon King’s strongest generals.
But Flamme is blunt enough to tell Frieren that she’s such a fool for facing Bazalt head-on instead of running away.
Flamme doesn’t understand how the mindset of strong mages like Frieren works as if she's weaker than her.
In reality, Frieren knows that Flamme is a much stronger mage than her.
Flamme and Frieren's Relationship Throughout the Years
Flamme took Frieren in as her apprentice after being fascinated with her mindset and magic potential.
She stayed with Frieren throughout the years, teaching her everything she knew about magic, including the most basic technique to fool demons.
More than anything else, Flamme taught Frieren how to hide her immense mana to surprise demons and kill them in the process.
She told Frieren how demons are arrogant and proud that they don’t hide their mana level from mages like them.
So, Who Is Stronger: Frieren or Flamme?
Frieren is already stronger than Flamme at present. But when the two of them first encounter each other, Flamme has superior abilities as the founder of mankind's magic.
Frieren is already an expert at basic and textbook magic, which Flamme used to teach her back when she was alive.
It has been years since Flamme passed away, and Frieren has grown so much.
Not only did she become part of the Hero’s Party that took down the Demon King, but she also did not stop acquiring new magic, regardless of whether it was useful or deplorable.
As long as Frieren lives, the more magic she acquires, the stronger she gets, unlike Flamme. If Flamme were alive, the results would be different.
While Flamme has been dead for years, we are expecting to see her appear again, not in flashbacks but in real-time, the moment Frieren reaches Aureole.
