Requiem of the Rose King attempts to bring Shakespearean vibes into the Winter 2022 anime season. Based loosely on William Shakespeare's Richard III and Henry IV, it offers a fictional account of the War of the Roses - ever an inspiring time for fictional works - with a supernatural twist. Based on a manga of the same name, the show follows Richard Plantagenet. In this version, Richard is intersex and identifies as male.
Cursed by his mother, who believes him to be a demon, Richard applies himself entirely to battle training and will stop at nothing to see the English crown in the hands of his family. But will his dream of Joan of Arc, who taunts that he will ruin everyone around him, prove prophetic?
