Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the popular anime and manga nowadays. The manga sold more than 50 million copies, including digital versions, in circulation as of May 2021. After the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen, MAPPA, the studio behind Jujutsu Kaisen, made an announcement that Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie will be released. The studio first released a 30-second trailer that gave fans an idea about the plot.
From the trailer alone, fans would get the idea that the story came from the miniseries Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The said movie will be released on December 24, 2021. What do fans need to know before they watch the movie?
What You Need to Know Before Watching Jujutsu Kaisen’s Movie
The title itself gave a hint to viewers that the movie is a prequel to the series. This means that fans will get a detailed backstory of the characters they loved from the series, for those who have not read the manga. It has been said that the movie will cover the events that led up to season one of the show.
With this, fans must be aware that Yuji Itadori won’t be the protagonist of the movie. It will be Yuta Okkotsu who is a special grade cursed human. He was hunted by his childhood friend. The movie will tell the story of how he entered the world of jujutsu sorcerers.
Like Yuji, Yuta was recruited by Gojo and was convinced by the latter to attend Tokyo Jujutsu High. Gojo will train Yuta to control the cursed spirit to prevent destruction. The protagonist will have new friends: Panda, Toge Inumaki, and Maki Zenin. The first season of Jujutsu Kaisen did not explain the backstories of those three sorcerers but the movie will give light to their past. Their team dynamics will be revealed in detail as well.
Fans of the anime thought that there would only be one powerful cursed spirit which is Sukuna, but they have not yet encountered Rika Orimoto, who is the Queen of Curses. She got into a car accident after she gave Yuta his birthday gift. This made her into a vengeful special grade cursed spirit.
