The Eternals are coming this year with their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as they introduce who they are and how they came about thousands of years in existence undetected on Earth. The Eternals, like the Avengers, are a group of powered individuals coming from a cosmic race of beings, but who is their leader?

Who is the Leader of the Eternals?

The Leader of the Eternals bears the title of the Prime Eternal, the one who leads the Earth Eternals able to initiate the Uni-mind. The title could be passed by succession to an heir, or by winning the combat commenced in the Hall of Eternal Judgment.

Originally, the leader of the Eternals is Zuras, a first-generation Eternal born in Olympia who was considered as the first Prime Eternal being the son of Kronos. His brother, A'lars, was the Eternal who resided on Saturn's moon, Titan, to lead the Titanian Eternals.

Zuras has a daughter, Thena, who was then given the title of being the Prime Eternal after the death of her father. Thena, during her years of being the Prime Eternal, was devastated by her father's death to suicide. This became her vulnerability taken advantage of by Kro, a Deviant on Earth who created the war against his kind and the Eternals. To save Kro's life, Thena had to turn against Ikaris whom she later relinquished her title of Prime Eternal too.

Ikaris got the title of the Prime Eternal from a successful challenge against Thena who was then holding the title. As the Prime Eternal, he could initiate the Uni-mind with other Eternals. To date, he is the current holder of the title leading the Earth Eternals.

All three Prime Eternals belong to different generations with Zuras from the first, Thena from the second, and Ikaris from the third.

In the film, both Thena and Ikaris are together in one group. From the looks of the first teaser, it is Ikaris who is holding the title of being the leader of the team although, for sure, at some point, he clashes in with Thena who was previously the leader. Having two leaders surely is better than one; all the two of them would need is cooperation and a common goal.

Ikaris is shown to be leading the group as he stands in the middle while Thena is on his side. The film is said to focus on the longstanding threat of the Deviants on Earth's Eternals who promised to protect mankind from their origins.

Eternals has a star-studded ensemble with Angelina Jolie as Thena, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Gemma Chan as Sersi, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Kit Harrington as Dane Whitman, and Barry Keoghan as Druig.

Marvel's Eternals is slated for a theatrical release on November 5, 2021.
