For Stranger Things fans, the fifth season has been a bittersweet wait. As fans await for the final chapter of the show, many can't help but hope there will be future spinoffs of Stranger Things. And today, we finally have an idea on what the Duffer Brothers have in store for the show's fans.

Even though plans for Stranger Things spinoff shows have been hinted in the past, we're finally getting an idea on what one of these spinoff shows will be. Earlier today, Netflix unveiled the official title of one of those spinoff shows, which will be released as a stage play.

Stranger Things: The First Shadow has been revealed to be a prequel of the show. Tickets for the stage play will go on sale before the month ends. If you're planning to pre-register at Stranger Things on Stage, you can get priority access to the play when it comes out.

As revealed, Stranger Things: The First Shadow will be a prequel. But unfortunately, it won't be released in theaters. Instead, the stage play will have its run at the Phoenix Theater in London's West End when it comes out later this year. The stage play will be performed eight times a week live on stage.

Stranger Things: The First Shadow is based on an original story by Matt and Ross Duffer, together with Jack Thorne and Kate Trefry. The stage play will be directed by Stephen Daldry.

Will it make its way to the streaming platform? Producer Sonia Friedman hints that a recorded performance of the play might make its way to Netflix, eventually.

"Set within the canon of Stranger Things, this new play opens in London, with the West End hosting the only place in the world to experience this new story – for now."

As a prequel, the stage play will be set around 25 years prior to the events of the show's first season. This time around, it will focus on the characters of the adults in the series, such as Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado, Bob Newby, and even Henry "Vecna" Creel.

The official logline reads:

“Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.”

The Duffer Brothers also talked about the characters that will be in the stage play:

“We are beyond excited about Stranger Things: The First Shadow. Collaborating with the brilliant Stephen Daldry has been nothing short of inspiring, and Kate Trefry has written a play that is at turns surprising, scary, and heartfelt. You will meet endearing new characters, as well as very familiar ones, on a journey into the past that sets the groundwork for the future of Stranger Things. We’re dying to tell you more about the story but won't - it’s more fun to discover it for yourself. Can’t wait to see you nerds in London!”
