The fourth season of Stranger Things ended with a cliffhanger that left the viewers wanting to see the next one right away. However, it is expected that it will take a long time again before the release of next season considering the wide gap that they had between the third and fourth seasons. So when exactly we might see the next season? As it turns out, that remains up in the air as of now.
Speaking with Collider, series creator The Duffer Brothers were asked if they already have a goal in mind in terms of the release date of the fifth season to which they responded that they are still figuring it out as they are currently in discussions with their crew about the production timetable.
"It depends who you ask. You know what I mean? That's what we're still figuring out," Matt Duffer said. "If you ask our AD, and our line producer, they want more time for production. Our post-production supervisor wants more time for post-production. So it's going to be a big discussion. How long does everybody get? Here's the thing, the more you shorten production, the more you shorten post-production, the more things get compromised."
Duffer also explained that, while they want the season to be out as soon as possible, they still want to make sure that they deliver the best version possible which would involve a lot of moving parts from writing to the post-production stage.
"It's just the balance of, 'Okay, how much are we willing to compromise to get the show out sooner?," he continued. "Is it more important to give everybody the time that they need to get this right, without being indulgent?' I'm sure we'll figure out what that line is, but my whole thing was I was never super worried."
While we want them to release the season as soon as possible, at the end of the day, it's always about the quality. Considering that it will be the final season, they want to take all the time they need and make sure that they will deliver a finale that will satisfy the viewers. Regarding the possible release date, assuming that they will begin production next year, it is likely that it won't be out until 2024. It might be a long wait again, but it's going to be worth it.
