Indiana Jones 5: Phoebe Waller-Bridge Mystery Role Revealed

Harrison Ford will be reprising his role as the iconic Indiana Jones in the fifth movie for the last time, with one of the newest additions to the cast members, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, recently revealing her mystery role in the film.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is famously known for her works such as Fleabag, Killing Eve, and James Bond flick No Time To Die. It was back on July 15, 2021 when we had her first look revealed to be working on set of Indiana Jones 5 wearing ‘60s attire. Now, her mystery role has been revealed to be Indiana Jones’ goddaughter named Helena.

Phoebe describes Helena on Empire as a ‘mystery and a wonder’, with director James Mangold calling Helena a ‘slipper, charming, girl-next-door grifter’ and Harrison Ford’s ‘pioneer in ethical accounting.’ Read Phoebe’s full quote below on how she got the role while having dinner with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy:

“Kathy [Kennedy] was in London and asked to have dinner with me, and I casually mentioned this. I immediately ordered ten bottles of wine. Then it was the fastest I’ve ever read a script. I came out of sort of haze afterwards. I just couldn’t believe how much fun I had and how moved I was by it. And then I had a Zoom and screamed, ‘YES!’ at them all.”

With Indiana Jones 5 set to be Harrison Ford’s final return as the titular character, there are speculations around Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Helena taking over the torch for him in future films, should there be any additional ones.

Returning for the fifth Indiana Jones along with Harrison Ford is John Rhys-Davies as Jones’ good loyal friend Sallah. However, Ke Huy Quan’s Short Round and Shia Labeouf’s Mutt Williams will reportedly not be reprising their roles. Joining the cast along with Phoebe Waller-Bridge is Mads Mikkelsen, the villain Voller, a former Nazi scientist working for NASA.

Indiana Jones 5 is slated for release in theaters on June 30, 2023. Meanwhile, Harrison Ford is set to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross in Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts.
