What Are The Four Chimes in Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2?

Throughout the fourth installment of the series, Vecna's motivations has always been a mystery to everyone and in the finale of Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2, it is finally revealed what the visions of the victims mean and each detail plays a pivotal role in the villain's plan.

It turns out that the four chimes mark something important -- it stands for the four victims whom Vecna will claim from the four sides of Hawkins to open doors that will help him unleash the Upside Down to the real world and take over. The four chimes are four sacrifices Vecna had to make.

First, there was Chrissy, Hawkins High School cheerleader, whom Vecna claimed in the trailer of Eddie Munson, then there was Fred who died in the middle of some road leading to Hawkins, and Patrick who was killed in the middle of the Lover's Lake.

The last piece of the puzzle is Max, the fourth chime. Vecna's plans succeeded and he was able to open the gates of the Upside Down from the four corners of Hawkins leading to the heart and center of the place which is the local library.

The finale teases that Vecna's plans are now in motion with the dark clouds and red lightning flying over the town, having every trace of life withering.

This confirms that Max really died in Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2. However, thanks to Eleven, she got her life back though still hanging on the balance since she's still in a coma and when Eleven searched her within the mindscape, only nothingness appeared.

Stranger Things Season 4 Volumes 1 and 2 are now streaming on Netflix.
