WandaVision's Elizabeth Olsen Insisted on Wearing Scarlet Witch's Costume Despite Previous Skepticism

WandaVision star Elizabeth Olsen may be honored and thrilled to be playing the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but the actress has expressed her true sentiments regarding her character's overall look in the franchise throughout the years.

Wanda Maximoff doesn't exactly look that comic book accurate in the franchise and there's a reason for it. When Olsen was meeting with Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon, he assured her right off the bat that she won't be wearing Scarlet Witch's signature comics outfit which gave the actress a huge sigh of relief as she wasn't thrilled about the possibility of showing that much skin for a Marvel project.

The character's MCU looks nothing like its comic book counterpart but it's still a welcome change. However, Olsen still finds it weird how she's the only woman in the franchise showing off cleavage. Things are set to change in WandaVision, however, as Wanda will be sporting her "comic accurate" costume in one of the episodes.

Surprisingly, Elizabeth was okay with the idea despite her previous skepticism about wearing the sexy Scarlet Witch costume. In fact, according to the 31-year-old star, she had to fight for the opportunity to wear the said outfit.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair's Still Watching podcast, Lizzie shared: "We have a Halloween episode, and they were trying to figure out how big of a nod to the character we were going to do and it did start off with the classic Scarlet Witch costume." She added, "It was kind of like a gypsy thing that has to wear a headband and I, like, fought for it. I was like ‘No, we have to go full into it…this is like the greatest thing, if Paul's doing it, I'm doing it."

You gotta admire Elizabeth's dedication to her craft and how professional she truly is. It's pretty evident that she's willing to go to extreme lengths just to make WandaVision worth seeing and quite frankly, it's safe to say at this point that she succeeded as the show continues to tickle our imaginations and curiosity on a weekly basis.

As for MCU Wanda not looking 100% faithful to its source material, I honestly don't mind at all. Also, let's be honest here, not all comic book costumes would translate well when presented in a live-action format anyway and I know Marvel Studios completely understands that.
