WandaVision: Here's Why Scarlet Witch's Sokovian Accent Returned in Episode 5

One of the most mind-boggling things about WandaVision is how Wanda Maximoff seems to have completely lost her Sokovian accent. However, it returned once again in Episode 5 in a truly unexpected scene. But why is the accent back and how does it work into the Marvel Cinematic Universe show's storyline?

Fans have long debated about Wanda's accent, which sometimes disappears in the MCU flicks. Interestingly, it was completely absent in the first few episodes of WandaVision and only returned briefly after the birth of her twins. However, it returned with full force in On a Very Special Episode... as she confronted S.W.O.R.D.

When Wanda emerges from the static field around Westview, she is revealed to be wearing her Scarlet Witch gear. In addition to that, her accent is still present as she demands to be left alone in her home.

The return of Wanda's Sokovian accent confirms an interesting fact about the character: Wanda is playing a very particular role in Westview, one of a happy young American housewife. However, she is still very much her own person when she steps out of the static field.

Elizabeth Olsen had already confirmed that Wanda is aware of the role she is playing in Westview and is choosing to speak the way she does in the show. However, there is little doubt we'll hear more of the Sokovian accent once Westview begins to fall apart.
