WandaVision Episode 5 Commercial Brings Back Wanda's Dark Civil War Past

The previous episode of WandaVision didn't have the usual commercial. However, Episode 5 has continued the tradition. Unfortunately, it also happens to be the darkest one in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series so far as it touches upon Wanda's heartbreaking accident in Captain America: Civil War.

In WandaVision Season 1 Episode 5, the commercial was for Lagos Paper Towels. It's a typical vintage commercial that compares the special brand with the leading brand, showing how the former is more effective.

The commercial may appear light and cheerful but its message is dark and painful for Wanda. Lagos happens to be the city in Nigeria where she joined the rest of the Avengers on a mission to take down Crossbones in Civil War.

In the film, Brock Rumlow detonated a bomb strapped to himself as a last-ditch effort to kill Steve Rogers. However, Wanda had flown him away from the crowd and accidentally dropped him on a building where 11 civilians were killed.

The incident led to the Sokovia Accords being put in place but the death of the civilians (which included Wakandans) laid heavy on Wanda's conscience. This is also referenced in the commercial's tagline: "Lagos. For when you make a mess you didn't mean to."

It's a dark reminder of things that Wanda has done in the past, things that she obviously wants to forget about. But is it also confirmation that somebody who knows about her history is in control of the commercials? Perhaps the truth will be revealed next week.

WandaVision Season 1 Episode 5 is currently streaming on Disney+.
