The Ultimate Made in Abyss Recap Before Season 2
The story of Made in Abyss begins with Riko and Reg meeting in the first layer of the abyss. After saving her life, Reg passed out and was sneaked into the Belchero Orphanage by Riko and her friends.
Riko eventually discovered that Reg was a robot cyborg, most likely an Aubade, a significant treasure from the depths of the abyss. Riko made Reg one of the orphanage's cave raiders in order to get to know him better.
Reg develops a close friendship with Riko over the next few days. Riko noticed his abilities, but Reg can't help but wonder about his origins and true purpose.
Meanwhile, Riko was informed that her mother's white whistle, along with other documents, had been recovered.
Riko read one of her mother's notes which stated that Lyza was waiting for her. However, the note has yet to be confirmed as belonging to her mother.
Regardless, Riko is deeply attached to the note and vows to plunge into the abyss alongside Reg.
Riko wants to meet her mother, while Reg wants to know his identity. Despite their friends' objections, Reg and Riko do the unthinkable and descend into the abyss.
Reg and Riko come across various beasts and vegetation on their journey. Along the way, they come across some rare artifacts and relics.
Riko meets one of Lyza's acquaintances, the white whistle, Ozen, the Immovable, in the second layer of the abyss.
Ozen revealed many secrets to Riko. She reveals that Riko was a stillborn baby who died shortly after birth. She was only able to survive because of the curse-repelling artifact they had placed her in.
It turns out that the artifact not only repels curses but also returns anything back to life.
Ozen put Reg and Riko's determination and dexterity to the test in the seeker camp. She trained them in the forest and then left them to fend for themselves for a week. If they survive the days together, Ozen will let them go without any objections.
Reg and Riko, thankfully, passed the training. Riko receives Lyza's pick axe, the Blaze Reap, as a parting gift from Ozen.
After some struggle in the third layer, Reg and Riko make it to the fourth layer of the abyss.
Unfortunately, Reg and Riko encountered an orb piercer. Reg brought Riko up to escape, but she was poisoned by the orb piercer's poison as well as ascending strains.
Nanachi, a hollow, arrives in time to save Riko and prevent Reg from severing her arm. Nanachi also brought them to its lair to look after Riko and meet her needs. Reg also meets Mitty, Nanachi's fellow acquaintance, in its abode.
While Riko recovers, the Hollow Nanachi tells Reg about its past. Bondrewd's white whistle had recruited them to take part in the experiment.
While Nanachi is unharmed by the descent, Mitty loses all of her humanity and intellect.
Suddenly, Nanachi asks Reg to use his incinerator to kill Mitty in exchange for its service. Despite his protests and disagreement, Reg fires his incinerator at Mitty, killing her.
After Riko recovers, Nanachi decides to join them on their adventure. At this point, Season 1 of Made in Abyss has come to an end.
Made in Abyss Movie Recap Before Season 2
Their adventures are continued in the film Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul.
Riko and the others arrived at Bondrewd's headquarters and met Prushka. The little girl is Bondrewd's adoptive daughter, who grew up in the depths of the abyss.
In a short period of time, Prushka and Riko became friends. Prushka not only assisted them, but she also motivated and inspired Riko.
The battle with Bondrewd, on the other hand, is unavoidable. They have no choice but to take the final dive against Bondrewd. His white whistle was also required to descend further.
As a result, Reg, Riko, and Nanachi confront Bondrewd, only to discover that Prushka has been sacrificed to become one of his cartridges. Reg eventually manages to keep Bondrewd at bay. He did, however, survive Reg's attack, it was later revealed.
Riko obtained a white whistle as a result of Prushka's sacrifice. At this point, Riko's friend Prushka will always be by her side, even if her story has a tragic and devastating ending.
Bondrewd watches as Reg, Riko, and Nanachi decide to plunge deeper into the abyss in their final dive.
