What Happened to Lyza and Riko in Made in Abyss?
Back in the day, Lyza unexpectedly conceived Riko while exploring the depths of the Abyss. Despite her health, Lyza accepts the government's order to retrieve the Greater Artifact Unheard Bell from the fourth layer of the Abyss.
Lyza, however, gives birth to Riko in the depths of the abyss. Riko, according to Ozen, is a stillborn baby. This means that Riko died shortly after Lyza gave birth to her. As a result, Lyza's depression took over, leaving an irritated Ozen.
In an unexpected turn of events, Riko survives after Ozen places her inside the Curse-Warding Box Artifact. While Ozen believes the artifact can only be used to ward off curses, it can also be used to bring anything back to life.
As a result, Lyza and Ozen abandon their mission to retrieve the bell in order to return Riko to the surface.

Who is Riko’s Father in Made in Abyss?
Riko's father is Torka, a black whistle in Made in Abyss.
Lyza married Torka despite being a white whistle. Torka tragically died during the expedition to retrieve the Unheard Bell. The expedition group clashes with some cave raiders and has numerous encounters with beasts of the Abyss, with Torka being one of the casualties.
This not only adds to Lyza's depression but also means that Torka will be unable to see his child. Riko will never meet his father, and the two will only know each other through the stories that live within Lyza and Ozen.

Do Riko and Lyza Ever Meet in Made in Abyss?
Riko and Lyza had not yet met in Made in Abyss at the time of writing.
Riko would only meet Lyza as a result of the curses of the Abyss in her hallucinations and dreams. Riko once had a hallucination in which she was accompanied by her mother in resurfacing back to the city, where they were greeted by the townspeople.
However, not everything in the Abyss is real, and believing in it is just another step towards an untimely demise. Riko, on the other hand, keeps Lyza's written note.
Despite the fact that it is unclear who summoned her, Riko believes she is being summoned by her mother in the depths of the abyss or wherever she may be.
In Made in Abyss, this remains a mystery, which we hope to solve in Season 2 if at all possible. After all, we're all keeping an eye out for Riko, Reg, and Nanachi as they bravely traverse the Abyss.
