Captain Marvel, the one who gave birth to Nick Fury's Avengers initiative, is returning to the MCU this November 10th alongside Captain Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan's Ms. Marvel.

But before we storm theaters higher, further, faster, and most importantly together, who exactly is Carol Danvers? Here is everything we know about her origins, goals, strengths, weaknesses, and more!

Carol Danvers wasn't always the all-powerful Captain Marvel.

In the comics, before turning into the cosmic heroine, Danvers was a United States Air Force pilot, whose ship crashlanded and got herself exposed to the Tesseract, aka the Space Stone from the Six Infinity Stones.

Due to her exposure to the Tesseract, Carol's gain of extraordinary cosmic-based superpowers accidentally transformed her into a human-Kree hybrid.

It was then and there that her exposure to the Psyche-Magnitron machine that the Kree Nega-Bands manifested her mighty powers and abilities.

So, instead of becoming the promising cadet Carol always dreamed of being, she worked and trained with the Kree in return for letting her keep her powers.

Because of this, Carol has had to team up with the Kree race, specifically, alongside Mar-Vell/Captain Marvel, and took on the identity of Ms. Marvel at the time.

The Marvel Comics had Carol take on more identities as her alter-egos, which include Ms. Marvel and being Binary. We have yet to see the latter come into the cinematic universe, though.

Captain Marvel's Strengths and Weaknesses

Captain Marvel's strengths in her superpowers include enhancing her strength, stamina, agility, and durability. She can also use the power of flight, and immunity to toxins and poisons.

According to the comics, she also has this seventh sense that lets her seek far into the future. However, she can't fully control this feature, which makes it less useful than her main ones.

Golden cosmic energy always engulfs her body, which allows her to absorb energy, and fire blasts from her hands.

But what makes her a formidable opponent is she doesn't merely rely on her cosmic powers. She is a master combatant, and an expert marksman, thanks to the Kree training she underwent all these years.

If anything, Carol's weaknesses would have to involve her own trust and confidence in carrying out her missions and using her powers to save the innocent.

As for the MCU Carol, she has yet to reach her full potential, so the weakness still applies. It's possible that having to work with a new set of heroes she isn't used to would force her to adjust and put more trust in her newfound colleagues.

Carol has teamed up with plenty of Marvel's teams including X-Men, the Avengers, and even the Guardians of the Galaxy. And this time, The Marvels will see to it that she works together with two unlikely heroes who share the same powers as her.

Brie Larson made her MCU debut back in 2019 when she graced the big screens as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel.

While her story aligns pretty closely with how she got her powers canonically in the Marvel comics, the 2019 film was a bit shorter.

Essentially, she lost her memories back when she was a mere human, allowing the Kree to take advantage of her even more.

She was led to believe that the Skrull-Kree war was a one-sided battle, convinced that the Kree was the right side of it all.

It was only when Talos and his family came up to Carol and Maria Rambeau that Captain Marvel figured out that Kree lied to her. As it turned out, she basically slaughtered some innocent Skrulls along their 'hunts.'

Thankfully, given the kindness of her heart, realizing who she really was before being 'Vers' made her stronger. In fact, powerful enough to stop the Kree and save what was left of the Skrull colony.

Since then, she has only ever made cameos to help Earth's Greatest Defenders in Avengers: Endgame and even in a post-credit scene of Ms. Marvel, which was a direct tease as to what the Captain Marvel sequel will be.

While Carol Danvers' solo movie did introduce us to the origins of how she came to be the Cap we know today, The Marvels serves as a continuation of her heroic journey.

The Marvels Showcases A New Side of Captain Marvel

We've only ever seen her work alone with the powers of her cosmic energy and briefly teamed up with the other female superheroes in Endgame, but other than that?

The Marvels marks the first time the three Captain Marvels team up together, namely, Kamala Khan and Captain Monica Rambeau.

The sequel plans on exploring the interconnection of their superpowers, and in doing so, they would have to work together to figure that out as well as how to prevent the destabilizing universe from getting worse.

Hopefully, we'll see a deeper characterization of Carol Danvers in the MCU upon her cinematic return. For now, you can check out all the details and updates you need to know about The Marvels' theatrical release date here.
