The Marvels Cast: All the MCU Characters Returning to the Big Screens

Brie Larson as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel

Initially titled Captain Marvel 2, The Marvels continues Carol Danvers' story of having escaped the tyrannical Kree.

After last showing up in a post-credit scene of Ms. Marvel, Carol (Brie Larson) has to figure out what exactly connects her powers with two more super Marvels: Monica Rambeau's and Kamala Khan's.

The Marvels shows a different side to Carol and that is reuniting with her estranged niece, Monica Rambeau, alongside her number one fan from New Jersey, Kamala Khan.

While Captain Marvel has long been known for being one of the strongest cosmic, light-based super in the MCU, The Marvels further proves that she had unknown special abilities she has yet to discover about herself.

In this case, she was able to power up the sun back on the Kree planet, Hala, which wouldn't have been possible if Monica hadn't told Carol that she had enough power to generate this energy.

Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), the estranged niece of Carol Danvers, will finally reunite with the Captain Marvel who worked alongside her mother, Maria Rambeau.

Now about to unveil her as the superhero, Photon, Captain Rambeau's powers will show a new side to her that we've been teased since she first appeared in WandaVision.

As she explained in The Marvels, Monica's light-based powers gave her the ability to 'see' light in such a way that she was tasked to help with the S.A.B.E.R. space station alongside Nick Fury.

She was also the first 'Marvel' to have figured out how their powers are connected: because of their cosmic powers. Oh, and also, because she and her Auntie Carol happened to touch a jump-point portal that led to their entangled powers.

Unfortunately, this didn't become a permanent thing in the Captain Marvel sequel after they had defeated Dar-Benn.

Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel

Iman Vellani plays the Jersey City superfan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, who finally worked with her superhero idol, Captain Marvel, in the most unexpected way.

As teased in the trailer, something connected her powers with the two super Marvels, and this is what The Marvels movie plans on exploring.

The three unlikely team members now find themselves having to work together to save the destabilized universe.

The Captain Marvel sequel didn't shy away from showing Kamala the true meaning behind hero work.

It wasn't all about the fame and saving every single one of the Skrull colony, but rather, as Captain Marvel told her, "We need to save who we can."

We got to see a much more confident Kamala in the film, considering that she, despite trusting Carol's superiority in hero work, made the call to save their ship from the Kree, even if it meant sacrificing Prince Yan's people.

The Marvels also got Kamala thinking of gathering her league of supers, starting with, well, you can read the rest in the latter part of this article.

Park Seo-Joon Makes His MCU Debut as Prince Yan

The South Korean actor Park Seo-Joon is making his MCU debut in The Marvels movie as a character named Prince Yan of Aladna.

The Marvel comics depict that the planet of Aldana involves musical elements, such that the people have to speak in rhymes to understand each other.

There's also the implication that Prince Yan is Captain Marvel's husband, which was, as Carol told Kamala and Monica, "out of a legal issue" to "help her friend."

The minute Captain Marvel entered the Palace of Aladna, she and Prince Yan had to dance and sing to warn him and his people that Dar-Benn was coming after their resources.

As for whether this could lead to Seo-Joon's bigger career in the MCU, we'll have to see if the billion-dollar franchise could feature more of him and his kingdom in the next Marvel movies and series.

Samuel L. Jackson Comes Back as Nick Fury

Last seen in his own series, Secret Invasion, Samuel L. Jackson returns to the big screens to work alongside the three super Marvels while riding the S.A.B.E.R. space station.

Considering that the events of Secret Invasion lead up to The Marvels, Nick Fury's role here was also involved with the thing behind the destabilizing universe, as teased in the official synopsis for the sequel.

He was mostly used as a comic relief in The Marvels, but his presence was just as crucial, nonetheless, especially when they discovered Kamala's superpowers when Monica accidentally switched with Carol.

And it was because of this that Fury had once more added another super to the Avengers. Or, possibly, the Young Avengers.

Zawe Ashton as the Main Villain, Dar-Benn

Zawe Ashton's villainous role as Dar-Benn spotlights her as the main antagonist Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Photon would have to fight together in The Marvels.

As one of the Kree's bravest and strongest warriors, it would seem that she, too, holds similar powers to Kamala's.

Given that the trailers have shown her owning a bangle like Ms. Marvel's, Dar-Benn could use that power to her advantage when she comes up against them.

Then again, there had also been theories that the bangle could belong to the Ten Rings from the Shang-Chi movie.

Dar-Benn's main purpose in The Marvels was to bring back the resources Kree lost when Carol initially destroyed it after transforming into Captain Marvel.

Because of this, Dar-Benn was ruled by revenge to not only claim the other bangle from Ms. Marvel but also to keep the 'Annihilator' (Captain Marvel) out of their way.

The Marvels Cameos: Who's Making a Surprise Visit in the Sequel?

There had been rumors that Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Photon would be getting an Asgardian ally as their backup plan. Though the God of Thunder, Thor, was initially rumored for that cameo, past rumors indicate that we might see Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, instead.

As for the actual cameos, we did get to see Valkyrie make a quick appearance in The Marvels. And it was when Dar-Benn destroyed the Skrull colony's planet.

To ensure that the Skrulls get to the safety of their own home, Captain Marvel specifically called for Valkyrie to keep them safe in the new kingdom of Asgard.

Aside from Valkyrie, we also had the chance to see Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop from Hawkeye right at the end of The Marvels.

There was also Lashana Lynch's Maria Rambeau in the post-credit scenes once Monica woke up in a different dimensional reality in space.

Without further ado, the mutants may have just been confirmed to be canon in the MCU!

In the same post-credit scenes, we got to see X-Men's Beast checking up on Monica Rambeau out of curiosity about how she even landed in their parallel universe.

As we slowly approach the November 10th premiere date, here's the official synopsis of what The Marvels will be about:

Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe.
When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol's estranged niece, Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as 'The Marvels.'
