The journey of John Walker is one that made The Falcon and The Winter Soldier more colorful with his character going through every phase from being hated from the start only to have his whole arc turned around in the season finale which gave him a whole redemption story that by the end, Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine gave him a new costume and moniker, US Agent, so what comes next for him?
John Walker had to go through a lot throughout the canon series of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier that Wyatt Russell, the actor portraying him, became the punching bag of the Marvel fans and being hated from the moment he stepped out and revealed himself to be the government's new Captain America at the end of Episode 1.
His narrative was one of the most extensively presented in the series that he struggled a lot to prove himself worthy of the title of Captain America, only to be stripped off of it when he killed a member of the Flag Smashers in public in Episode 4. He even had a moment of realization when he faced the Dora Milaje in the same episode where he said, "They weren't even super soldiers."
He then took the super-soldier serum, had super strength, and still failed when he snapped after seeing the death of his best friend and partner, Battlestar, Lemar Hoskins. Hitting rock bottom, Val arrived just in time to give him some motivation to continue whatever he is doing. He then proceeded to make his very own shield.
In the finaleepisode, his redemption arrived when he helped Sam and Bucky take down the Flag Smashers and saved the members of the GRC from harm. Walker proved himself that he is a hero after all. (Literally, don't hate but was rooting for him to have his redemption story.) Walker emerges from his downfall and redeemed himself to the public eye.
By the end of the season, he meets with Val again to try his new suit, his previous Captain America suit in black and Val declared that things will start to be weird and when it does, they'll be needing a US Agent rather than Captain America.
What Comes Next For John Walker as US Agent?
To start, with Val pulling the strings, it seems like there is more to come for Walker and Val teaming up in the future, and knowing that Val also keeps in touch with Zemo despite being the Raft prison, there is something Val is cooking up under her sleeves and it is as if it points to the introduction of the Dark Avengers as Val is also set to appear on Black Widow where Yelena Belova will debut, another member of the said group in the comics.
In Marvel Comics, the Dark Avengers is a group of villains, an imposter group, brought together after the Avengers disbanded during the Secret Invasion arc. In the MCU, we may have seen some of the members already with Val being the Nick Fury of the team, John Walker as US Agent being the Captain America of the group, Yelena Belova as the Black Widow, Abomination being the Hulk, and White Vision.
Though this still has no concrete certainty, the stars are currently aligning themselves to kind of make this happen. As there is a Secret Invasion series upcoming, it could be hinted that the Dark Avengers are on the way and that means a future for Walker as the US Agent in the future.
Knowing Marvel, the actors they cast are not usually for a one-off. A lot of the characters return even in the most unexpected show like that of Darcy and Jimmy in WandaVision. Since The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is only Walker's first appearance, expect to see him again sometime in the future donning his new costume and moniker, US Agent.
