The people behind The Falcon and the Winter Soldier better give themselves a huge pat on the back because they were successful in creating a character who a lot of fans genuinely despise. John Walker aka the "new" Captain America has generated massive hate from the fandom no other Marvel villain — not even the Mad Titan Thanos himself has been able to do.

Actor Wyatt Russell seems to be enjoying his Marvel fame and despite the tremendous amount of hate his character has been receiving, he's being a good sport about it. Although he doesn't have access to social media, he reveals that he's aware of the memes and the harsh comments John Walker has been generating online.

In an interview with Variety, Wyatt says: I don't have social media, but I've gotten some of the stuff sent to me from friends that were just too good not to see. The best one is the 'Up' guy with the helmet on. It's f*cking unbelievable. I mean, whoever did that deserves an award of some kind.

Wyatt also understands where the fans are coming from and doesn't take things too personally. He added: "It's flattering. They just hate the guy. They just hate him! It was fun to be the Marvel punching bag for a little while."

Personally, I'm enjoying Russell's role in the MCU as a brash and cocky "superhero" and I have a good feeling that the hate surrounding his character will eventually go away once he solidifies himself as a good guy which I think is the story they're going for despite what we've seen so far.

The latest episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is now streaming on Disney+.
