The Crown is a beloved original TV series that is a fictional retelling of the lives of the Windsor family behind closed doors. The series has been a huge success, earning the support of fans from countries all over the world, whether or not they are a part of the Commonwealth.

Thanks to the popularity of the first series, the production giants behind the series are already talking about creating a prequel. Though the prequel is still not greenlit, we are already excited to learn more. Here is everything we know about The Crown Prequel.

There is still no set release date for The Crown’s prequel.

The first season of the original series premiered on November 4, 2016, with the second season coming out on December 8, one year later. The Crown Season was released on November 17, 2019, followed by Season 4, premiering on November 15, 2020. The fifth and penultimate season came out on November 9, 2022.

If the prequel follows the same trend and schedule as the original series, it may also come out sometime between November and December 2024 at the earliest.

When was The Crown Prequel Greenlit?

The Crown Prequel is still not greenlit as of writing. The latest news about the series showed that Netflix is in close negotiation with the producer of the original series, Left Bank.

We still do not know who will participate in The Crown Prequel. Previous actors who may play parts in the series include Jared Harris, who played King George VI; Alex Jennings and Derek Jacboni, who both played King Edward VIII; and Richard Dillane, who played King George V.

There are still no announcements about any actors who are involved, but we will be updating this article as more news rolls out, so stay tuned!

So far, we only know that Netflix and Left Banks will be working together to produce the prequel of the series. Peter Morgan, the creator of the original The Crown series, may also be returning to write the prequel.

The plot of The Crown Prequel is still a big mystery, but it seems the series will focus on the events 50 years prior to the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

It may cover the reign of more than one monarch, starting with the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 up to the wedding of Queen Elizabeth (then Princess Elizabeth) to Prince Philip.
