It's no secret that Kumail Nanjiani is finally joining the Star Wars Universe in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Still, his character remains to be a mystery. Luckily, that is about to change as the Eternals actor has shared interesting new details about his role in the highly anticipated Disney+ series!
Kumail Nanjiani recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about Obi-Wan Kenobi where he finally opened up about his character in the Star Wars show. Interestingly, Nanjiani confirmed that his character is new to the Star Wars Universe and dropped a lot of information about the mysterious Haja.
"His name is Haja. And he's this guy who works on the streets of Daiyu, which is this new Star Wars location that we haven't seen before that's absolutely gorgeous," Nanjiani shared. "And he's the guy who's worked really hard to stay out of the bigger conflicts at play. He just kind of wants to be his own guy. Survival for him is all that matters."
He then revealed that his character is "this sort of con-man guy who cons people for money. That's what's important to him. And then he has a run-in with Obi-Wan and suddenly he sort of gets stuck in the bigger conflicts at play, which is the thing that he really tries to avoid."
"So he is this street-level con-man guy who then gets embroiled in stuff that's way too big for him. And he has to make a choice," Nanjiani concluded.
It's great to know that Nanjiani's character will somehow be working closely with Obi-Wan and we're wondering how the Jedi Master will deal with someone like Haja. Needless to say, we can't wait to see them all in action next week.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will also star Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Moses Ingram, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie, Maya Erskine, and Sung Kang. The series will premiere on May 27, 2022.
