Obi-Wan Kenobi Trailer Confirms Rupert Friend as Grand Inquisitor

It has been a long wait but it was definitely worth it. The first teaser for Obi-Wan Kenobi is finally out and we just got some awesome footage from the highly anticipated Star Wars series. In addition to that, Rupert Friend has ultimately been confirmed to play The Grand Inquisitor in the upcoming Disney+ show!

In March last year, Rupert Friend was one of the many new cast members confirmed for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. However, all roles were undisclosed so fans were left wondering who these new actors will play and whether some of them will portray an existing Star Wars character. This was especially true with Friend, who many believed will play one of the villains in the show.

So who is Rupert Friend playing in Obi-Wan Kenobi? The truth has finally been revealed as the show's first trailer was dropped and Friend is confirmed to be playing The Grand Inquisitor.

The Grand Inquisitor is also known as the Master of the Inquisitorius and is the highest-ranking Inquisitor of the Galactic Empire. He is a Pau'an who used to serve as Jedi Temple Guard but has since joined the Dark Side. The Grand Inquisitor reported to Darth Vader and hunted down any Jedi who had survived the Great Jedi Purge.

It's exciting to know that the Grand Inquisitor is officially making his live-action debut after appearing in Star Wars Rebels. In the animated show, the character was played by Jason Isaacs and Friend's performance in Obi-Wan Kenobi seems very different but also similar to the series.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will also star Ewan McGregor as the titular Jedi, Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars, and Bonnie Piesse as Beru Lars. They will be joined by Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie, Maya Erskine, and Rory Ross.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series premieres on Disney+ on May 25, 2022.
