Eternals Star Kumail Nanjiani Teases New Details About Mystery Obi-Wan Kenobi Character

We will be seeing Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo in Eternals this November but that's not the only major role for the Silicon Valley star in the future. After all, he has been cast in a mysterious role in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. But who is Nanjiani playing the Star Wars show and will it be an important role? The Stuber actor has just shared some interesting new details about his character in the new Disney+ series.

Back in March, it was confirmed that Nanjiani, along with several actors including F9's Sung Kang, has been cast in the Kenobi show. Although their roles were not disclosed, fans were hoping that they would play familiar characters in the Star Wars Universe. However, it looks like Nanjiani will portray someone completely new in the franchise.

Nanjiani recently spoke to Rolling Stone about Eternals but he also discussed how he ended up being cast in the Star Wars series.

"My agents called me and it was the whole group of them that never call you. And I was like, 'OK, this is either amazing news or really awful news.' And they're like, 'They want you to play a part in Obi-Wan, and apparently, it's substantial,'" Nanjiani said. He then revealed that he spoke to director Deborah Chow about the role.

"We had a great conversation. And the character sounded awesome — I was so excited about this character," Nanjiani said before sharing some interesting new details about his role.

"We haven't seen this exact thing in Star Wars yet. This is like a new version of a type of Star Wars character we've seen before. And she was trying to sell me on it. And I was like, 'I was gonna do it before the conversation!' It was kind of perfect," he concluded.

We can't really blame Nanjiani for being excited to join the Star Wars series. After all, it means an opportunity of joining the franchise and working with big names like Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, and Joel Edgerton. It's a dream job for any actor and the fact that the role is "substantial" is just another selling point.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will also star Moses Ingram, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Simone Kessell, Maya Erskine, and Benny Safdie. The show will also bring back McGregor as the titular Jedi and Christensen as Darth Vader. Edgerton and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith castmate Bonnie Piesse were also confirmed to reprise their roles as Owen and Beru Lars, respectively.

The Star Wars series has not yet been given an official release date but Kenobi is already expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2022. In the meantime, fans can catch Nanjiani in Eternals, which will hit theaters on November 5, 2021.
