Squid Game Season 2 just got a major update. Netflix has dropped a cast announcement video confirming which actors are returning for the second season. In addition to that, we just got a glimpse of the new stars who are ready to join the game.
Squid Game Season 2 Cast Announcement Video Reveals Returning and New Stars
The Squid Game Season 2 cast announcement video was dropped during TUDUM 2023: A Global Fan Event in Brazil. It confirms that Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun will be back as Seong Gi-hun and Hwang In-ho aka The Frontman, respectively.
Amazingly, it is also revealed that Wi Ha-joon will return for the second season. Wi's character Hwang Jun-ho was seemingly killed off by his own brother in Season 1 but the announcement pretty much confirms the policeman survived the fall from the cliff.
Another returning star is Train to Busan actor Gong Yoo who played a small yet important role in the first season. The unnamed salesman was the one who recruited Gi-hun in Season 1 and there is little doubt he will be slapping more recruits soon.
Now for the new cast members joining Squid Game Season 2. The video reveals that Yim Si-wan (Emergency Declaration), Kang Ha-neul (The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure), Park Sung-hoon (Joseon Exorcist), and Yang Dong-geun (Connect) will have important roles in the second season.
For now, it has not yet been revealed which of the new actors will be playing the contestants or guards or other interesting new characters in the series. However, their roles could finally be revealed when the official Squid Game Season 2 trailer is released.
One notable absence is Jung Ho-yeon who played fan favorite Kang Sae-byeok in the first season. Sadly, her character was killed off in Season 1 and it looks like she will not be back despite previous outrageous teases of Jung's return.
Squid Game Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date. However, the series is set to return on Netflix in 2024. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
