Sarah Ferguson spoke about her encounter with Prince Harry's wife, Meghan Markle. However, in her recollection, they hadn't really met until they spoke at the Queen's funeral, a report says.
Sarah Ferguson Talks About Meghan Markle In Her Interview
Ferguson spoke with The Telegraph ahead of the release of her new novel A Most Intriguing Lady. During the interview, the Duchess of York shared what she always taught her daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice — to always smile whenever they walk out because "no one wants to see a grumpy princess."
The interviewer and Ferguson burst out laughing until the former asked the latter about Meghan Markle. Princess Eugenie's mom said this about Markle:
"I don't really know Meghan. I haven't really met her. I spoke to her at the funeral, and I thought she looked absolutely beautiful. I think she is beautiful."
When asked if Markle damaged the royal family, Ferguson said she was not in the position to answer the question. However, she said that she sees how happy her nephew is with the former actress.
Ferguson said:
"She has made Harry very happy, and that is so nice. Honestly, he's so happy with her. She really loves him. And I think that's beautiful – and that Diana would be proud of him and her lovely grandchildren."
Meghan Markle Claims Sarah Ferguson Teaches Her How To Curtsy
Surprisingly, Ferguson's statement seemingly suggested that she had not met Markle until they spoke to each other at Queen Elizabeth's funeral. However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex claimed they met with the Duchess of York, who helped Markle practice how to curtsy before the latter met Her Majesty.
Markle said this in her and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey, according to Daily Mail:
"Right in front of the house, we practiced and ran in. Fergie ran out and said, 'Do you know how to curtsy?' Apparently I did a very deep curtsy, I don't remember it, and then we sat there and we chatted."
Prince Harry also shared the same story in his memoir Spare. According to him, when Markle was about to meet his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, he asked the Suits star if she knew how to curtsy.
Markle said she thought so but didn't expect her then-boyfriend to be serious. Markle said the Queen was his grandmother, and Prince Harry reminded his then-girlfriend, "But she's the Queen," suggesting that Markle still needed to curtsy.
Prince Harry wrote this about their meeting with Ferguson:
"We pulled into the driveway, drove across the gravel, parked next to the big green box hedge. Fergie came outside, somewhat aflutter, and said: Do you know how to curtsy? Meg shook her head. Fergie demonstrated once. Meg imitated her."
He added:
"There wasn't time for a more advanced tutorial. We couldn't keep Granny waiting. As we walked towards the door Fergie and I both leaned into Meg, whispering quick reminders. When you first meet the Queen it's Your Majesty. Thereafter it's just Ma'am. Rhymes with ham. Just, whatever you do, don't talk over her, we both said, talking over each other."
What do you think about Sarah Ferguson and the Sussexes' story? Did Ferguson meet and teach Markle how to curtsy, and she forgot it?
