According to Radar Online, rumors regarding the queen's special friendship with Richard Burton surfaced in the late 1950s, three years after she and Prince Philip tied the knot.

The queen and Burton crossed paths after she wanted his performance in a Shakespeare stage play at London's Old Vic Theater.

Royal author Nicholas Davies claimed that the queen was captivated by the sheer magic of Burton's voice.

During their conversation backstage, the queen couldn't help but be smitten with Burton after he kissed her on both cheeks and hugged her instead of shaking her hand.

According to reports, the queen also forced a special friendship with Lord Carnarvon. The two reportedly met when the queen was just a teenager. But they became close again amid rumors of Prince Philip's infidelity.

"He was someone she could turn to during stressful times," a source said.

According to TIME, Prince Philip was linked to the likes of writer Daphne du Maurier and cabaret star Helene Cordet. However, there was no evidence to prove that he had an affair with them or with any other woman.

In the book Elizabeth II: Her Life in Our Times, royal biographer Sarah Bradford also claimed that Prince Philip had affairs, and the queen just accepted them.

"The Duke of Edinburgh has had affairs ... full-blown affairs and more than one. He has affairs and the queen accepts it. I think she thinks that's how men are. He's never been one for chasing actresses. His interest is quite different. The women he goes for are always younger than him, usually beautiful, and highly aristocratic," she wrote (via Town & Country).

But despite the controversy, the queen still referred to Prince Philip as her strength and her stay.
