Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not been working for Queen Elizabeth in the past two years. In 2020, the couple announced their exit but said that they did not want to quit their royal duties. However, Her Majesty didn’t allow them to become part-time royals wherein they would continue their job but would reside outside of England.

But in her statement two years ago, the queen also said that the arrangements regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s request were still temporary. And a review will take place one year later. So, it was only last year that things were finalized, which means that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will remain in the United States and continue their jobs as non-working royals.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Could Return As Part-Time Royals After Queen Elizabeth Passes Away

During a recent discussion on the To Di For Daily podcast, royal author Tom Quinn said that he has a strong feeling that Prince Harry and Markle would return to their royal duties when Prince Charles ascends the throne. And the arrangement will be based on their own terms and what’s going to be beneficial for the couple.

“One interesting thing an insider told me… is that both Meghan and Harry believe that when the elder royals die – in other words, Elizabeth – they may well be able when Charles is King, be able to come back and be the part-time royals that they really wanted to be. So, that they would be six months [as] working royals and six months in the States or wherever doing their own thing. That was something that Queen Elizabeth absolutely said couldn’t happen, but I think Meghan and Harry are hoping that Charles, Harry's father, after all, will be more of a modernizer and will say to them, ‘okay, if you want to be part-time royals, that’s fine,’” Quinn said (via Express).

Quinn also said that he doesn’t think Prince Harry and Markle would want to stay in the United States permanently and not be part of the royal family. After all, the couple wants to do everything all at the same time.

Prince Harry Doesn’t Intend To Use His Memoir To Destroy The Royal Family’s Reputation

The royal author also talked about the Duke of Sussex’s upcoming memoir and said that it’s unlikely for Prince Harry to want to destroy the royal family’s reputation.

“I don’t think Harry does want to destroy the Royal Family. I think he just really does want to find a role. He doesn’t really have a role in the Royal Family because he’s the spare rather than the heir, but there are still lots of hospitals to open, meetings to go to, and charities to support. He could have had that limited role, but in California what can he do? So, I think really rather than damage the Royal Family I think he’s just madly in love with Meghan and wants to make her happy,” he said.

Prince Charles Could Welcome Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Back Into The Royal Fold

In April, Quinn already talked about the possibility of Prince Harry and Markle returning to the royal fold. At the time, he said that Prince Charles wanted to streamline the monarchy when he was king, so it only makes sense for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to return.

However, it is important to note that Quinn was the one who suggested the number of months that Prince Harry and Markle could work as a royal and the number of months that they could stay in the United States.

“We’ve already heard Charles say he wants to streamline the royal family, [to] modernize it. I think Meghan and Harry are hoping…Charles will be open to [them being] part-time royals, which is what they wanted from the start. Of course, the queen—who grew up with this sense that you’re either in fully or out fully—she wouldn’t allow [it]...Charles may well allow this. They could do that for half the year, and you know, do their other stuff in America,” he said (via Marie Claire).
